#F1 Chinese Grand Prix Review: Super Max & Shanghai Surprises
Thursday Apr 25, 2024
Thursday Apr 25, 2024
In this edition of News Desk Unplugged, GRANDPRIX247 editorial duo Paul Velasco and Jad Mallak discuss Round 5 of the 2024 FIA Formula 1 World Championship, the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai.
Back on the F1 calendar for the first time since 2019, the weekend in China provided interesting talking points as Max Verstappen and Red Bull emphasised their dominance with a commanding victory.
McLaren and Lando Norris surprised themselves with P2 not thinking their car would suit Shanghai.
They were wrong as Lando was next best to Max. Sergio Perez qualified his mighty RBR20 in P2 on Saturday, but on Sunday he was only good for P3 after losing a spot on the opening lap and playing catch-up thereafter.
Fernando Alonso also starred for Aston Martin with that incredible save and another fired-up display from the veteran.
In stark contrast, in the sister car, Lance Stroll was shockingly bad. As were Mercedes, albeit to a lesser extent as Lewis Hamilton and George Rissell toil with little reward with another well-below package to make the most of
These and other topics are dissected by Paul & Jad.
Enjoy and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

#F1 Mercedes Needs Sainz & Carlos Needs Merc
Thursday Apr 25, 2024
Thursday Apr 25, 2024
GRANDPRIX247 editorial duo Paul Velasco and Jad Mallak discuss the two big pieces in the 2025 Formula 1 Season jigsaw puzzle.
Namely, who does Mercedes get to fill the seat vacated by Ferrari-bound Lewis Hamilton? Spaniard Carlos Sainz or young hotshot Kimi Antonelli?
Is George Russell team leader material for Mercedes?
Is Mercedes on the downslide a place to go for any big-name F1 driver? Did Fernando Alonso turn Toto Wolff down?
Paul is convinced Sainz and Mercedes need one another, but Jad is not so sure...
In this episode of NewsDesk Unplugged the duo discuss what might be for Mercedes and Sainz? Do you agree? What's your take?

#JapaneseGP #F1 Review: Max Verstappen 2024 World Champ!
Monday Apr 08, 2024
Monday Apr 08, 2024
In this latest episode #23 of NewsDesk Unplugged, GRANDPRIX247 Editorial duo Paul Velasco and Jad Mallak discuss the main talking points after the 2024 Japanese Grand Prix.
Red Bull dominated with Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez scoring a one-two at Suzuka despite their 'fears' that the pack was closer. P3 was soon to be jobless Carlos Sainz for Ferrari, albeit 20 seconds down on the winner. With teammate Charles Leclerc again playing number two to his teammate, all weekend.
But it was a good Grand Prix for Ferrari, who are now only bettered by Red Bull, the two top teams leaving the rest behind at this stage of the 24 Round 2024 Formula 1 World Championship season.
Three years into the 'new' rules, Mercedes are still searching for the 'Go-Fast' button on the Traktor W15. Lewis Hamilton was all bullish ahead of the race, but by Sunday afternoon he was in "Do you have better questions?" mode which can be translated into: "I can't wait to get outta this place. Red suits me!"
Other matters highlighted, discussed and dissected include the continuing fall of Daniel Ricciardo; the cruelty fate continues to dish out to Williams since it realised they had no spare chassis; McLaren's strange form; Fernando Alonso demolishing Lance Stroll and other news that made headlines from Suzuka.
Last but not least, Paul and Jad agree and have crowned Max Verstappen the 2024 F1 World Champ!

#AustralianGP #F1 Review: Super Sainz & Other Stories
Thursday Apr 04, 2024
Thursday Apr 04, 2024
In this edition of NewsDesk Unplugged, GRANDPRIX247 editorial duo Paul Velasco and Jad Mallak discuss the 2024 Australian Grand Prix, dissecting the major talking points from the weekend in Melbourne.
Carlos Sainz's incredible victory must have Ferrari scratching their heads. Is letting him go the right thing? What now for Sainz.
Of course, Max Verstappen breaking his brakes ended a ten-race winning streak for him and Red Bull. Last time they were interrupted by their former driver. Could Sainz go back to Red Bull?
Other matters analysed include a miserable weekend for Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton's early DNF; teammate George Russell's last lap prang with Fernando Alonso, and the penalty dished out to the Aston Martin driver for that spat.
Williams team boss James Vowles gets a tongue-lashing for only fielding one-car to a two-car race and questioning if this team deserves to be among the elite. Also Sauber's sh!tsh0w and other interesting observations from a stellar weekend at Albert Park for Formula 1, Ferrari and, most of all, Smooth Operator aka Super Carlos Sainz.

Sergio Perez: What must he do in 2024?
Monday Feb 19, 2024
Monday Feb 19, 2024
GRANDPRIX247 editorial duo Paul Velasco and Jad Mallak discuss what Red Bull driver Sergio Perez has to do in 2024, as Max Verstappen's teammate beyond this year.Perez was roundly destroyed by Verstappen in 2023 but nevertheless did enough for RBR to have their drivers 1-2 in a Championship winning season. But the gap between Perez and Verstappen grew, despite the Mexican's two early wins in Jeddah and Baku, he simply was not in the contest for the title that went Max's way after that. With a slew of handy and keen drivers in the queue waiting for Perez to drop the ball, what must he do to make them wait longer?

Christian Horner & RBR: Trouble in Paradise
Tuesday Feb 06, 2024
Tuesday Feb 06, 2024
In this episode of NewsDesk Unplugged - brought to you by BC.GAME - Paul Velasco and Jad Mallak discuss Formula 1's hottest topic: Christian Horner and his future as team principal of Formula 1 World Champions Red Bull Racing is at risk
The Briton is facing an internal (Red Bull) investigation into alleged inappropriate behaviour towards a female team member. Horner is innocent until proven innocent of course and must not be judged in the court of social media.
His wife Geri Horner (aka Geri Halliwell of Spice Girls fame) means the British media vermin are feeding on the story that could mean the end of Horner's job as TP of RBR.
But, for us F1 followers the saga has revealed a hitherto 'unseen' feud at Red Bull with the Horner faction on one side and apparently an anti-Horner cabal on the other.
This is hardly news their two mega-star assets namely, reigning triple F1 World Champion Max Verstappen as well F1's greatest designer Adrian Newey want to hear on the eve of the RB20 launch, also another WDC and WCC campaign.
Exacerbated by the fact that Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari in 2025, frees up the Mercedes seat alongside George Russell. If Red Bull is indeed imploding as an F1 team, Max and Adrian could well start looking elsewhere.
GRANDPRIX247 editorial duo, Paul & Jad discuss the Horner news and what it means to Red Bull Racing, a team he has headed since 2005.

Mercedes #F1 driver wanted | Who will it be in 2025?
Saturday Feb 03, 2024
Saturday Feb 03, 2024
We have dubbed it F1's News of the Century: Lewis Hamilton's sensational move to Ferrari at the end of this season has the Formula 1 world in a proper spin, as no one saw it coming.
In this episode 17 of NewsDesk Unplugged podcast Paul Velasco & Jad Mallak discuss who might be the driver to fill Hamilton's shoes. There will be a list of drivers calling Mercedes boss Toto Wolff to offer their services.
One could hazard a bet and reckon that the first call would've been from Fernando Alonso! Seriously though, the list of candidates will be long and include the likes of Valtteri Bottas returning. Mick Schumacher stepping up from the reserve role, teenage sensation Kimi Antonelli, Wolff protege Esteban Ocon? What about Lando Norris? And Sebastian Vettel making a return? He is younger than Lewis after all.
Whatever the case the F1 Silly Season will be a long one, starting as early as 1 February this year! Beyond Hamilton's move, there is likely to be a flurry of activity on the driver market until 2025 is upon us.
Whereupon Lewis Hamilton will don the Red of Ferrari, in the footsteps of some of the sport's greatest driver for another chapter of his remarkable F1 career.
Paul & Jad share thoughts on the earliest starting, and sure to be the longest, F1 Silly Season in the sport's history!

Hamilton to #Ferrari | It's Official
Saturday Feb 03, 2024
Saturday Feb 03, 2024
In what we've dubbed as Formula 1 News of the Century, Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari has detonated the Formula 1 narrative, as the sport's greatest driver and its most famous team unite in 2025.

This won't be the last of Hamilton-Ferrari-related podcasts as this move took the F1 world (barring the perpetrators) by surprise and triggered a myriad of questions in the process. What about Carlos Sainz? Who will Mercedes get to fill Hamilton's big shoes? What does this mean for F1? And what Tifosi think?
